Yes, you’ve got that right. I’m going to talk to you today about the power of no and being able to say no to things, because in our life and in our society that is probably the thing that we find the most difficult.
Especially if you’re a female watching this, because we tend to take on far more than we can handle in most situations. If you’re a mom, if you’re a business person, if you’re a career gal, whatever the case might be. And no offense to the guys out there watching because many of you are doing this too; you spread yourself too thin because you never want to say no to somebody and have it appear as if you’re not being helpful or cooperative or a team player.
When in reality, that the best way for you to be helpful, the best way for you to be effective and to be a team player, and to accomplish whatever it is that you’ve set out to do, and accomplish whatever the people perhaps that are relying on you are hoping that you’ll be able to do. You’ve got to say no with some frequency and know when to draw those lines and create those boundaries to be able to say, “I cannot take on anymore and still continue to be effective and to properly perform to your level of satisfaction, because I just can’t do anymore than I’m currently doing.”
Understand that saying no is not short-changing yourself for those around you, it’s actually giving you an opportunity to be able to rest and rejuvenate and come back bigger and better and stronger than ever before.
So, come on, I want you to practice it. In the comments below, just say no. And then, let me know what it is that you’ve identified in your life that maybe is time for you to just take a little bit of a break from and say no and go back and tackle it another time, when the timing is right, and the scheduling is right.
